Big news day today for web developers. “Aaaah, now we actually have to support Safari!” and so forth. There’s lots of coverage everywhere and I won’t add to the noise here.
However. One of the first things I noticed when installing Safari for Windows is that the title bar text is in Lucida Grande, the rather pretty font that is used throughout Mac OS X. From that I thought “hmmm, wouldn’t this mean the font is installed on my system now?” It is! If you peer into “C:\Program Files\Safari\Safari.resources” you’ll find the TrueType files for both Lucida Grande and Lucida Grande Bold. Copy them over to C:\Windows\Fonts, and you can use them wherever (and also view them when specified in a website). Nice!
I wonder why they aren’t just installed directly into the fonts folder, perhaps some licensing shenanigans?
