For a previous iteration of the Arena Solutions homepage, Arena wanted a compact and attractive means of displaying several recent news stories, along with the logos of their customer success stories.

The logo rotator goes the extra mile to be a bit more intelligent. Namely, simply pulling random logos from the pool each time is not ideal, because you occasionally get the same logo multiple times in successive rotations, or even multiple times simultaneously (in its early stages, my co-workers and I would play it like a slot machine). So it stores a record when each logo is displayed, and once all of them have been displayed once it deletes the record and starts over from the beginning. This way all of the logos are displayed equally as often.

The HTML involved for both is just a basic ordered list, and the rest is accomplished through the magic of jQuery. You can view my source code for the news ticker and the logo rotator and modify them for your own use if you like. These also fall back intelligently if the user has CSS and/or JavaScript disabled, and it’s extremely easy to keep the logos and associated links updated as they’re all served from an XML file.

For this I was the front-end developer, and I was lucky enough to work alongside Ian Andersen and Marc Escobosa, the talented gentlemen who designed and directed, respectively.
